Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are looking to put the January transfer window behind them, as another missed target dampens the future hopes of fans.
Rafa Benitez headed into the January transfer window full of hopes and expectations as he looked to get business completed promptly, although Mike Ashley had other ideas as he overlooked the Spaniard’s plea to bring in additions swiftly. And, in an attempt to avoid future problems in transfer windows to come, an internal debate is being planned by Benitez to discuss what went wrong. Indeed, it appears that a failed attempt at a January signing is now being eyed up in the future, as according to reports in the Calcio Mercato, Newcastle tried to sign Lovro Majer in the January window but are now looking to reignite their interest in the summer.
Newcastle United were believed to be ‘seriously’ trying to secure the services of highly-rated Croatian Lovro Majer, who currently plays his football in his home country with NK Lokomotiva Zagreb. But, this goes down as another transfer window disaster for the Magpies, as the club were believed to have held talks and negotiated a deal with the 20-year-old in what was supposed to be done for €15-£18 million. Although, Italian side Sampdoria are looking to make the most of Newcastle’s mistakes, as they attempt to hijack the Magpies’ target after being handed a chance to sign him.
The youngster has been dubbed as the ‘Messi of the Balkans’ with our local residents having high hopes for the Croatian, as he looks to operate in a similar attacking midfield role to one of the world’s best. Indeed, with seven goals and three assists already this season, he’s displaying an all-round game that Newcastle United’s present and future can definitely benefit from.
The Croatian looks to be the next in line to follow on in the footsteps of Luka Modric, as a promising player that could play a huge part in the future at St James’ Park. In a position that would be beneficial to curing the Magpies’ current goalscoring woes, a move for the youngster in the summer is definitely something they should revisit.
