Newcastle United: Richard Keys’ questionable Miguel Almiron verdict has Newcastle fans fuming

Even though Miguel Almiron’s statistics don’t make for much pretty viewing, Newcastle United supporters are starting to get behind the playmaker as he steadily provides more and more creativity as the games roll on – but pundit Richard Keys completely disagrees.
Keys, who partnered Andy Gray on Sky Sports for many seasons before being axed due to sexism controversy, has had his say on Almiron’s form this season and whether the Paraguayan was worth the money to bring him to Tyneside.
The 25-year-old signed for Newcastle back in January for £20m, temporarily breaking their transfer record before Joelinton arrived in the summer, with supporters acknowledging that he had a slow start to life in England.
However, some fans believe the South American has seemingly begun to have more and more say on the pitch with his creativity and work rate despite not yet getting off the mark for his club – with Almiron so far having zero goals and zero assists to show for his improving performances, as per WhoScored.com.
Speaking on his blog via Newcastle Chronicle [16:02], Keys went in on the attacker after reviewing his WhoScored statistics:
“What exactly was Benitez thinking when he paid that money to Atlanta United?
“I can’t think of one – can you? This verdict from ‘Whoscored.com’ on Almiron. Crossing – weak. Passing – weak. Finishing – weak.
“Almiron failed to score in 54 of his 68 MLS games. Five of his 22 goals were pens. It’s 1 in 21 for his national team.
“He’s quick, but, other than that, what exactly does he do? Bruce will be a genius if he gets something out of him, but I really do wish both well. No-one likes to see a player struggling.”
In response, Newcastle fans flooded the replies on Twitter in support of Almiron and in complete discontent with Keys’ verdict – here’s what they had to say:
Richard keys is a proper weapon like…

I have seen awful players, bad players, average players, good players and a few great players wear our shirt in the 60 years I have supported our club, but this lad is nowhere near average, he has something special about him, stick with him 👍

Been in the prem less than a year. Aye he needs a goal but I’ve seen more than enough to convince me he’s a good player

Miggy is quality!

Richard Keys has obviously never seen him play – if he says he has then he’s a lousy judge of a player.

Keys really should watch us play sometime…or any Premier League club for that matter
