Newcastle United: Steve Bruce hoping for back-to-back wins

Steve Bruce has said he hopes to secure back-to-back league wins with victory over Watford, as shown on Newcastle United’s Twitter page.

Having beaten Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 to secure his first win as manager of the Magpies, Bruce is hoping to repeat that against Watford.

He has described getting back-to-back wins as “crucial” for a Premier League team based on his experience.

Newcastle won three games in a row once last season – against Watford, AFC Bournemouth and Burnley – while they won twice on the bounce on three separate occasions, as per Transfermarkt.

When Bruce’s Hull City side were relegated from the Premier League during the 2014/15 campaign, they only managed to win back-to-back games twice, with both times coming in the second half of the campaign.

The first of those came against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers, while the other came when they beat Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

Bruce is correct in saying it is important for Newcastle to win back-to-back games, this is perhaps the case even more at St. James’ Park, as he needs to build momentum to help get fans back on his side.

Two games, of course, do not solve everything, as the club will need to perform across the entirety of the season, but getting back-to-back wins will certainly be a good start, as well as a sign of progress being made under him.
