Newcastle United: Steve Bruce verdict following 4-0 Arsenal hammering attracts scathing feedback

Following Newcastle United’s 4-0 loss away to Arsenal on Sunday, many supporters were bewildered in response to manager Steve Bruce’s verdict that the first half was ‘as good as we’ve played in a long time’ – with a lot of fans taking to Twitter and voicing their outrage.
Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette outlined a torrid afternoon from Bruce’s perspective despite going into the break 0-0. Sean Longstaff’s deflected effort, along with Allan Saint-Maximin’s strike off the woodwork, were the only moments of threat too few and far between for Newcastle – having failed to notch a goal back before Ozil and Lacazette’s late strikes sealed a deserved win for the home side.
However, despite an afternoon to forget, manager Bruce was quick to outline a perceived positive that their first half was as good as they’ve played in a ‘long time‘ (The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh via Twitter).
Is Danny Rose too good for Newcastle in their current state?

Absolutely none of today was a shock. I’m embarrassed by every word Bruce utters. Unfortunately he isn’t.

Next season is the year we get relegated and we will end up like teams like Blackburn, Hull, QPR and Middlesbrough give me a reason why we won’t end up like those teams if relegation happens again if anyone disagrees

Not giving much away? 5-0, 4-0, 4-1, 0-3. Aye okay, Steve.
