The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are hoping for a busy January window. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar believe reinforcements arriving is key to the club’s success when it comes to maintaining Premier League status.
It’s painfully evident to those on Tyneside that Rafa Benitez and his men desperately require a striker, making the curious case of Aleksandr Mitrovic all the more, well, curious. While the Serbian may not be perfect, the fact he’s been left out of Benitez’s plans altogether this season has confused our punters clad in black and white.
A popular figure amongst the punters propping up our bar, it’s barely a surprise to see the former Anderlecht man linked with a move away. It’s just not something our resident Geordies like hearing.
According to RMC Sport, Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have opened talks with Mitrovic’s ‘entourage’ over a potential move to Les Girondins after he admitted recently his time at St. James’ Park was up. However, the deal is likely to cost the French outfit a pretty penny, which could scupper any chances of a potential move.

It’s a real shame that it’ll seemingly never work out for Mitrovic at Newcastle. If they truly are to get rid of the Serbian international, they need to ensure it’s to a foreign side and not a Premier League relegation rival.
