Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are angrily demanding new signings at the bar, following a slow start to the new season.
Rafael Benitez’ side have lost both of their opening two games following their return to the top-flight and the Spanish manager has made his desire to get further additions through the door clear, despite already signing seven new faces.
Newcastle’s finances are restrictive though and players may have to leave in order for new signings to be made, which may lead to a mass exodus in the final week of the summer transfer window.
Dutch striker Siem De Jong is on the verge of becoming one of the first names to be offloaded this week, as the 28-year-old edges towards a move to Eredivisie giants Ajax.
De Jong, who signed from Ajax in 2014, is on the cusp of a return to his boyhood club after failing to make the grade in the North East, scoring just once in 22 league appearance, but his spell has been plagued by serious injury issues- including a collapsed lung.
Siem De Jong could have been a hit at Newcastle United but circumstances outside of his control prevented him from making a mark and also robbed him of crucial years in his career. However, at 28, he has the chance to get back-on-track.
As well as two collapsed lungs suffered during his career, a freak accident in January 2016 left him in danger of losing sight after on of his contact lenses was pushed into his eye. Hopefully, he can get going again on his return to Holland.
