Though the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are full of optimism ahead of their return to the Premier League, it’s fair to say it’s proved to be a frustrating summer thus far.
Indeed, outside of the permanent signing of last season’s loan star Chrisitan Atsu, the Magpies have yet been unable to bring anybody through the St. James’ Park doors. While our resident Geordies are remaining calm, they’re eager to see top brass strengthen Rafa Benitez’s squad.
So, reports from the Chronicle do little to quench their collective thirst for new arrivals, though do centre around a player potentially playing for the Toon Army next season.
They claim those behind the scenes on Tyneside want a decision soon on whether or not Yoan Gouffran will sign the deal reportedly offered to him. The Frenchman proved a pivotal figure during the promotion push last term and is thought to have been met with a potential one-year extension as a result.
Still, he’s so far taken his time on whether or not he’ll agree to it, with club officials now said to be wanting a decision either way by the end of today.
Though Gouffran hasn’t wholly convinced for large parts of his three-and-a-half-years in Newcastle, our punters propping up the bar believe the squad to be a little thin already, so hope he stays.
