The Newcastle fans within the Transfer Tavern are astounded to see their side in the top 10 after months of relegation pressure.
The turnaround has been nothing short of brilliant and the Magpies should credit their worthy manager Rafa Benitez with a big amount of money to spend in the summer so he can sustain the team’s good fortunes of late. Newcastle know they’re far from perfect but their recent form suggests that with the infusion of some new blood this summer, staying in the top 10 could be a realistic aim come the end of next season as well.
In order to help this aim become a reality, the Magpies need a goalscorer they can rely on and our punters think they’ve found the man. With Southampton losing their battle with relegation, Newcastle should eye this as the perfect opportunity to bring Charlie Austin to St James’ Park.
The 28-year-old has had a troubling season filled with injury woes but having scored 7 goals still in the games he’s played, it proves how Austin really is a natural goalscorer.
Newcastle know that although their form has been great, not one of their strikers has made a statement to cement their position in the team. This cannot go on and Newcastle’s number one priority has to be searching for a player who knows the Premier League and where the net is.
With Austin valued at £10.80 million on Transfermarkt and Southampton facing the likely outcome they will be relegated, the Magpies may be able to pick up the Englishman on the cheap. A lot of interest is sure to surround Austin but with Newcastle’s need for a striker growing bigger and bigger, they have to get to the front of the cue.
