Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been sat at the bar discussing the sort of business they’re expecting from their side this season, and they’ve been handed reports of imminent exits to mull over.
Chronicle Live states Newcastle are looking to offload Scotland centre-back Grant Hanley this summer, with Achraf Lazaar and Daryl Murphy set to follow the Scottish international out of Tyneside in the close-season.
Signed last summer for £5.6m, Hanley has earned just five Championship stars during the club’s title-winning campaign and is set to be offered to the likes of Wolves and Derby County, as Rafael Benitez’s side eye a restructure.
34-year-old veteran Murphy is another who’s set to leave this summer, despite an impressive return of five goals in 15 appearances, and 25-year-old Lazaar is also set to leave after failing to make a single Championship start since arriving from Palermo last summer.
With the trio all arriving at St. James’ Park last summer, our landlord has warned Newcastle that their transfer activity needs to be improved ahead of their return to the Premier League if they’re to secure their status in the top-flight.
Our landlord thinks Newcastle are well equipped for the Premier League already, but definitely thinks that there is a lot of deadwood just lingering at St James’ Park.
