‘Next Jon Dahl Tomasson’ – Newcastle United fans fear the past amid club-record reports

As you can imagine, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a new striker. Indeed, with a lack of goals the main problem at St. James’ Park right now, our punters clad in black and white are delighted to read reports linking them with a move for Feyenoord striker, Nicolai Jorgensen.

While an initial bid is understood to have been snubbed by the Dutch side, Mike Ashley is believed to be willing to be willing to break the club’s transfer record on the 27-year-old marksman, much to the delight of our resident Geordies. Though Joselu and Dwight Gayle have tried their best this season, neither have done all too much to convince on Tyneside thus far.

For a club that has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with marquee marksmen over the years, the idea of welcoming a new one to fall in love has had our punters dreaming. Indeed, the likes of Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer and Andy Carroll have thrilled the Geordie faithful over the years, though the fact that Jorgensen is Danish has certainly reminded them of another former Toon forward…

Many of our Newcastle-mad drinkers are talking about Jon Dahl Tomasson, who flopped in black and white entirely. Despite proving a goal machine pretty much everywhere else he played, the former AC Milan looked hopeless in the north east of England, with many of our locals praying his compatriot doesn’t end up the same way, should he join.

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at the reaction on Twitter.
