Newcastle managed to grab a point away to Crystal Palace at the weekend with the game ending goalless.

The Magpies travelled to Selhurst Park searching for their first win of the Premier League season after a dismal start to the 2018/19 campaign. Despite being the inferior side for much of the game, Rafael Benitez’s side managed to snatch a vital point against Roy Hodgson’s men. Again, Newcastle’s offensive game left much to be desired and is starting to become a real concern for supporters.

New signing, Salomon Rondon, is yet to find the back of the net in black and white and was a lonely figure again at the spearhead of the Newcastle attack. Bringing the Venezuelan into the game will be key if the Magpies are to improve their fortunes. Adding more creativity to their side is a must when the January transfer window opens.

One man they should be targeting is Wigan Athletic playmaker – Nick Powell. Valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old was tipped to be a future Manchester United star after progressing through the club’s youth academy and representing England at youth level. However, his time at Old Trafford did not go to plan and he was eventually sold to the Latics in 2016.

At Wigan, Powell has found his feet and has finally shown what he is capable of. The midfielder was key to their successful promotion bid last season, scoring an impressive 15 league goals as well as registering seven assists for his team-mate. Powell’s incredible performances have continued in the higher division, with four goals and four assists to his name already in the Championship.

With less than one year remaining on his contract, Newcastle could grab a bargain in January. Powell could follow in the footsteps of James Maddison in becoming a Premier League success.
