Nightmare October: Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been extremely underwhelming in the current campaign as they find themselves facing relegation worries already.

The Magpies would have been hoping for a top half finish prior to the start of this season, but things haven’t exactly turned out this way as they continue to disappoint under Rafa Benitez.

Indeed, it’s vital that Newcastle can ensure consistency in what could prove to be a season-defining month, with the opportunity to climb up the table and gather a few positive results together.

Although, with plenty of games still yet to come and a number of negative factors possibly coming into play, Newcastle United could soon find themselves in even more trouble.

Therefore, here’s TWO things that could force Newcastle to take a step backwards…

JONJO SHELVEY SUFFERS DIP IN FORM

Jonjo Shelvey has been one of the rare shining lights in what has been a very disappointing campaign for Newcastle United so far. Indeed, the Englishman has been the source of all things brilliant as he dictates play in the middle of the park, with his teammates currently letting him down.

However, the Magpies could face even more disappointment if the central midfielder suffers a dip in form as he has been the only player that has really held the ship together at times.

RAFA BENITEZ MAKES DRASTIC U-TURN

Rafa Benitez’s future has looked rather promising in recent times as he seems to be leaning more towards the possibility of extending his stay at St James’ Park beyond this season.

However, things could all change drastically if the Magpies fail to halt their slide and there’s a breakdown in communications between Benitez and the Newcastle hierarchy, as the Spaniard could soon be packing his bags and takings his efforts elsewhere.
