The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are mystified by Ayoze Perez’s dream of a World Cup call-up.
With the World Cup in Russia only 8 months away, players around the world are working to impress their managers at club level, in order to build a case for international selection next summer.
Ayoze Perez of Newcastle United is dreaming of representing his country in Russia, according to the Chronicle Live.
Perez has predominantly been deployed in a number 10 role for the Magpies so far this season, though is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League, much to the frustration of our resident Geordie contingent.
The comments from the Chronicle have sparked the beginning of a tirade of criticism from fans on Twitter, who widely consider his dream to be ludicrous.
With competition for places in the Spanish national team as competitive as ever, Perez certainly has to demonstrate remarkable improvement this season before he can genuinely stake a claim for the World Cup squad.
Here’s what fans on Twitter had to say in response to Perez…
yep, same here for England. I’ve prob got a better chance though

They’ll remain as dreams. Not good enough for the premier league so not good enough to get a sniff near the spain squad
