The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are loving life under Rafa Benitez so far this season.
Newcastle United extended their unbeaten run to three games this weekend with a narrow 1-0 victory against struggling Crystal Palace, who remain firmly at the foot of the Premier League table after 9 games this season.
The winner arrived late on at St. James’ Park, courtesy of a fortuitous header from their latest signing Mikel Merino with just 4 minutes of regulatory time to play.
Merino has quickly established himself as a fan favourite since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, and his first goal for the club is sure to increase his popularity amongst the Newcastle faithful.

Next up for Benitez’s side is a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley next Monday evening, where they will be quietly confident of securing an away victory given their recent form.
However, Newcastle fans are extremely concerned with the appointment of referee Mike Dean.
Dean has become a controversial figure in Premier League football due to his apparent eagerness to give out game-changing penalties and red cards.
It is fair to say that Dean’s appointment has prompted a vicious backlash on Twitter from the Newcastle United faithful, who are beginning to doubt their sides credentials on Monday evening with Dean running the show.
Here’s a few examples of the reception Dean’s appointment has received on Twitter…
