Newcastle will be hoping for a Christmas miracle as they pray for some new signings to arrive in January, along preferably, with a new owner as well.
That, right now, seems a very far-fetched dream but the Magpies are good enough to push on in the Premier League, with the right financial backing.
Having finished 10th last season with nothing more than team togetherness and a top manager, Newcastle know they can’t keep relying on that to improve, they need better players and fast.
A big problem this season once again has been scoring goals, with players not creating, let along scoring enough.
In a bid to solve that problem, Newcastle should recruit a man great at both and at the tender age of 22, Ollie Watkins could be the star St James’ Park is waiting for.
Watkins, who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt, is a player in fine form and one that has to be on the list of targets for Newcastle.
The need for a winger isn’t urgent but Watkins and his versatility allows him to play anywhere across the frontline, creating chances and scoring goals for the team.
Watkins has a superb return in-front of goal this season, with seven goals in his 17 Championship appearances this season.
Those goals have come in a struggling Brentford side as well, which further portrays how talented a player he is.
Newcastle would love to get a dose of that in their lives, which could really liven the mood around St James’ Park. Rafa Benitez too will be delighted, not only because he is signing someone but Ollie Watkins could really be the next big thing in a Newcastle shirt.
