Newcastle are still yet to win in the Premier League heading into the second international break.

The Magpies are languishing in the relegation zone with just two points from their opening eight fixtures in the Premier League. Rafael Benitez was not given sufficient funds to strengthen the squad during the summer window, and now the club are paying the price for their lack of spending. Owner Mike Ashley has been spotted at games recently but is yet to see his side emerge victoriously.

Benitez has been unable to get his attackers in the game, bar a spell against Manchester United, Newcastle have looked lacklustre in the attack. The Spaniard lacks a true number ten that can create chances and carve open defences. With Salomon Rondon frequently isolated in attack, signing a playmaker in January should be a priority.

One man he could target is Hertha Berlin star – Ondrej Duda. Valued at just £2.7m by Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old has finally found his feet in the Bundesliga and is putting in some excellent performances. Duda has been a critical player for Hertha so far this season, scoring five goals in just eight appearances from attacking midfield.

Injuries hampered his progress at the German side, but Duda is now looking like the player who showed massive potential during his time with the Slovakian national team. With excellent technical ability and a fantastic work-rate, the midfielder would be a dream addition to Benitez’s squad. The Slovakian is also a set-piece specialist which could be extremely useful if Newcastle are in desperate need of a goal.

Once likened to Angel di Maria, landing Duda could be the catalyst for a New Year revival at St. James Park.
