Perfect Kenedy alternative: Newcastle must seek to move for wantaway £10.8m-rated sensation

Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with their side seeking to build upon their mightily impressive tenth place finish last time round.

Rafa Benitez’s men deserve huge credit for securing a top half finish upon their return to the English top-flight, having only earned promotion from the Championship 12 months earlier. However, it’s clear from some of their limitations over the course of the campaign that reinforcements will be needed for Benitez to take the club forward this term, although whether owner Mike Ashley will release funds for such signings remains to be seen.

Nonetheless, there are many optimistic and expectant Magpies supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports suggesting that Ademola Lookman could seek to leave Everton this summer.

And Newcastle must be ready to capitalise on such reports by moving for the wantaway £10.8 million-rated sensation (as per Transfermarkt), as doing so would give them the perfect alternative to Kenedy should that deal fail to materialise.

Ultimately, the 22-year-old Brazilian star made a huge difference to the North East giants last term following his arrival from Chelsea during the January transfer window, with the winger going on to net twice and lay on two assists in 13 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

And while those numbers are hardly ground-breaking, it was clear that, even when he didn’t contribute in the final third of the pitch, Kenedy carried a genuine threat and added a great deal to a Newcastle front line that was pretty blunt in the first half of the season.

And the Chelsea star must have done something right, as reports recently have suggested that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the 22-year-old, thus leaving Newcastle facing the prospect of missing out on the Brazilian ace.

As such, Benitez will surely be considering potential alternatives to Kenedy, and Everton’s Lookman appears to be one certainly worth pursuing if he does indeed want to leave Goodison Park.

The England Under-20 World Cup winner took just a few minutes to net on his debut for the Toffees against Manchester City back in January 2017, although he has since then failed to turn out regularly for the Merseyside outfit.

In fact, the 20-year-old instigated a loan move to RB Leipzig in January in a bid for first team football, and he got exactly that in the Bundesliga in appearing 11 times for the club, netting five goals and laying on four assists in the process.

Thus, like Kenedy, Lookman has proven his worth abroad to suggest that he could be ready to shine in the Premier League, while his few appearances in the English top-flight do suggest that he has genuine pedigree and potential to go on and become a quality attacker.

And with Newcastle eyeing up those exciting additions that can help take them forward this season, they must seek to capitalise on Lookman’s reported Everton doubts by luring him to St James’ Park, in what would be the ideal alternative to Kenedy.
