Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be wanting the club to do everything they can to keep Rafa Benitez at the club, including meeting his demands.
The Mirror are claiming that the Magpies boss wants written guarantees about his future transfer budget and powers at St. James’ Park to ensure he gets what he asks for. The Spaniard has made it no secret that he would like to stay and continue his project, whilst the club would also like him to remain in charge.
Benitez has already been offered a new deal, despite having one year already left on his current contract. The locals are desperate for him to sign a new long-term agreement following speculation that he could be tempted to go to their Premier League rivals or even bigger teams.
The media outlet have claimed that the former Liverpool boss had a verbal agreement with the hierarchy about a year ago that he would have around £70million to spend on recruits across three transfer windows. Interestingly, the ex-Real chief is believed to be open to staying on Tyneside right now.
In the two windows since that agreement, he has been hardly able to spend a significant amount and grew frustrated with the lack of activity, and will be seeking reassurances that it will not happen again.
The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be desperate for Benitez to remain at St. James’ Park and will be hoping Mike Ashley and his team can reach an agreement about what he can offer the Spaniard in the future, including the financial backing to make the team stronger.
