Newcastle are in need of consistency as they ideally want to keep their place in the Premier League again next season.
Rafa Benitez’s side have been good at times but poor during others, form that consequently leaves them in 14th place.
They have had problems in scoring but also in creating the chances to do so. That is an issue that has to be quickly addressed and could be done so by signing Real Betis star Junior Firpo.
The Sun are reporting that Newcastle are the latest club to be looking at the 22-year-old wing-back, who has been in brilliant form for the Spanish side this season.
So what could the potential consequences be for Newcastle if they manage to beat the competition to sign him…
The end for Paul Dummett in the starting line-up
Paul Dummett has been a terrific servant for Newcastle but even he would have to accept that Junior Firpo is far the superior talent, one who could really have a telling impact in defence and going forward.
The Welshman is also currently injured so the need for a left-back is great. Whether it’s someone who comes in as a back-up, or Junior Firpo, Newcastle have to ensure it’s the latter.
Firpo would solidify Newcastle’s defence
The 22-year-old has been very impressive in attack this season as La Liga’s top goalscoring defender with five in the calendar year but his defending talents are equally as impressive.
The full-back has had a hand in keeping six clean-sheets for Real Betis this season and would undoubtedly be an important fixture in Newcastle’s back-line.
