While a draw at home to Liverpool is a good result, the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t stop talking about one particular sight to have emerged over the course of the weekend.
Indeed, our Geordie contingent who frequent in their droves have been debating whether or not the appearance of Amanda Staveley meant a takeover was imminent.
It doesn’t take an expert to realise that Mike Ashley is a pretty unpopular figure on Tyneside, though an interesting takeover tidbit has emerged from the Independent.
While talking about Staveley’s potential interest, it’s claimed that any interest in China is thought to have cooled. Chinese interest was mooted in regards to Newcastle United reasonably recently, though the club are unlikely to follow West Brom and Southampton in being at least part-owned by investors from the Far East.
Still, Staveley certainly has been receiving support from Newcastle fans on Twitter, who dream of an owner who’d be prepared to back Rafa Benitez in the transfer market, as he aims to take the club back to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
The idea of Newcastle being taken over is a difficult one to truly believe. While it’s certainly exciting, there’s been so much talk over the years and Ashley certainly has a reputation, so it’s hard to get too excited.
