Potentially encouraging reports emerge for Newcastle fans ahead of summer window

Newcastle United fans will be expecting the club to spend in the summer after confirming their status in the Premier League for next season, and it appears that fans in the Transfer Tavern may get what they want.

The Newcastle Chronicle are reporting that owner Mike Ashley is set to give manager Rafa Benitez the financial backing he wants to bring in a number of additions, although the owner wants him to spend ‘within their means’.

With the Magpies set to finish in a mid-table position in the Premier League, it is believed that the North East heavyweights will generate around £80 million to £120 million in TV and prize money, and Benitez is expected to get a fair portion of that money to help strengthen his squad, including money made from sales.

That money could thus help them complete deals for players such as Martin Dubravka and Kenedy, which locals in the bar will be hoping they can pull off – however, the latter is likely to have a number of offers come his way in the summer such have been his impressive efforts in the North East.

As well as offering the Spaniard the funding required, Ashley is also believed to be tabling an offer for his manager, and is reportedly not concerned that there is just a year left on his present deal despite being touted for the Arsenal job.

Landlord’s Verdict: The Newcastle locals in the Tavern will be hoping that the club will be finally able to compete for players with the clubs around them as they will receive a vast sum of money, with the reports potentially encouraging.

Many of the punters will also be looking for the club to get Benitez to sign a new deal, and will be delighted to hear a new contract is set to be offered.
