Newcastle United will be preparing for the visit of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, but the fans in the Transfer Tavern will be more than excited by the news coming out of the club about next week.
And that’s because The Newcastle Chronicle are reporting that manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that he is to finally hold talks about his future with the club next week, confirming his representatives will sit down and discuss everything he feels needs addressing.
The Spaniard has just 12 months left on his current deal and fans in the bar will be hoping he can be convinced to sign an extended contract, although they will realise he will need certain assurances from the club regarding their plans for the coming years.
Benitez has stated that he would like to remain at the club and wants things to be resolved as quickly as possible, so he can prepare to plan his summer recruitment strategy.
He told The Newcastle Chronicle: ‘I have had conversations with the club and we will talk again next week. My representatives are talking with Lee Charnley and they will again.
‘It is about my future and everything else too. But we will see what happens. It is good if things are resolved quickly.’
And this potentially significant update is sure to be seen positively by Newcastle fans, what with Benitez’s contract having been put on the back burners in recent times, but now ready to be addressed as the Magpies eye a potentially fruitful future under the Spaniard.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Newcastle locals in the Tavern will be delighted about the news that Benitez will continue talks about his own personal future at the club, and they will be hoping they can agree to the terms he has after helping to guide the North East giants to a promising finish in a mid-table position.
