While there wasn’t a huge amount to talk about during the international break for Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, the fact that Aleksandar Mitrović has been linked with a move away from the club certainly split opinion.
According to Mondo, Aleksandar Mitrović will depart Newcastle United in the upcoming January transfer window. Since joining the Magpies at the start of the 2015-16 season, the Serbian forward has scored 17 goals in 68 games for the Toon Army, not a great return, despite his popularity.
However, the former Anderlecht striker hasn’t enjoyed the best of relationships with manager Rafa Benitez, and the striker is seemingly poised to depart for pastures new in January, according to this report. Indeed, the Serbian is currently behind Dwight Gayle and Joselu in the pecking order for central striking positions.
It is rumoured that both Brighton and Southampton are interested in his services as the winter period approaches. It will be intersecting to see how the story develops as we get closer to January.
Aleksandar Mitrović is far from Newcastle’s first-choice striker, and in a World Cup year, he must receive consistent first-team involvement. Accordingly, the 23-year-old should depart Newcastle in January and establish himself as the leading striker at another Premier League club.
