With so much talk amongst the Newcastle United supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern in regards to the potential return of Andros Townsend to the club of late, it’s fair to say recent links with a move for Swansea City ace Mo Barrow served as a relative disappointment.
During his short stint on Tyneside, Townsend proved a hugely popular player amongst the Geordie faithful and, despite leaving for Crystal Palace shortly after their relegation, would no doubt be a huge statement signing for those in black and white.
Though that deal in particular seems to have dragged on for a while now, Swansea’s Gambian speedster seems to have emerged as an alternative. While he’s also a Premier League winger, it’s hard to argue the 24-year-old would be a signing of the same quality.
However, in Rafa they should trust.
Benitez has raised eyebrows with a number of signings since taking over last year, with the likes of Ciaran Clark, Daryl Murphy and Isaac Hayden not exactly overly inspiring to our punters upon their arrivals. However, thus far, that trio have proved hugely important members of the Spaniard’s title tilt.
So much was made about the fact the 56-year-old lacked experience at this level and how that could potentially come back to bite him over the course of a campaign as arduous as this one. Still, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid seems to have at least got his transfer dealings right at St. James’ Park so far.
The Rafalution is on it’s way to the Premier League. Barrow can help carry it.
