Life is really rather good amongst the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern right now. After a rocky start to the campaign, Rafa Benitez’s side sit comfortably in the top half of the table, much to the delight of our punters clad in black and white.
Indeed, while the summer transfer window didn’t really go to plan, the Spaniard’s signings have looked good for the Toon Army, particularly Mikel Merino. The midfielder joined from Borussia Dortmund on loan this summer and has hugely impressed the Geordies, so much so that his deal has now been made a permanent one.
With that in mind, reports from the Chronicle have gone down a storm. They claim Benitez is eager to further scout the Bundesliga, following the success of Merino, in an effort to land players of a similar ilk. That’s music to the ears of our resident Magpies, who’d love to see more of these type of players arrive.
Signings players such as Merino would be a clever way to go for Newcastle. As they look to progress and continue their Premier League journey, finding value for money and hidden gems really would see the Magpies soar.
