Promising situation for January transfer window mooted in Newcastle United takeover talk

Every single day, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are fretting over the state of the club’s potential takeover. With the January transfer window looming, our punters clad in black and white are eager to see some progress made on that front.

Many of our Geordie contingent don’t think a Mike Ashley-owned Newcastle will make the required moves to keep the club up in the New Year sales and, with the Magpies losing form at the wrong time, Rafa Benitez really does need backing in 2018.

So, imagine how well reports from the Chronicle have gone down today. They suggest Amanda Staveley and here PCP backers COULD still help the club out in the New Year, even if an official takeover isn’t complete. The outlet point to the Manchester City takeover in 2008 that saw the club splash big money before official handing over took place, as well as a recent Championship takeover.

It would require the deal to move to a stage such as the exclusivity phase and, based on trust and confidence, money could be provided by prospective new owners to fund player purchases which would help to secure their investment.

It’s all very complicated and, though there are no guarantees, such a positive spin is at least a reason to smile again.

Landlord’s Verdict:

No matter how it’s done, Newcastle need to bring in some quality over the course of the January transfer market. They don’t lack for effort or desire, but Rafa Benitez can only do so much with what he’s got on Tyneside right now and they desperately need to improve.
