While the 1-0 scoreline as Newcastle United beat Burton Albion may have looked like a relatively routine victory, it was anything but for the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern.
The Magpies saw Matt Ritchie’s penalty controversially disallowed by referee Keith Stroud, a topic of debate hotly discussed by everyone in the bar for the last few hours.
Still, that wasn’t only story coming out of last night’s win. Returning to the side was a certain Chancel Mbemba, a popular figure amongst our Tyneside drinkers.
The Congolese has struggled for game time of late, though is widely considered as quite the talent at St. James’ Park, so his partnering of Jamaal Lascelles in central defence went down a storm on Twitter last night.
Though he’s had to wait for his chance, the 22-year-old certainly proved his class to the fans online, so here’s a look at how Twitter reacted to his performance.
Chancel Mbemba is definitely worth £40m! What a player we've got on our hands… #NUFC

Mbemba was pure mint last night. Could see him checking himself from going forward too much. Lessons learned from the boss. #nufc

On the other hand I thought Diame, Anita, Lascelles and Mbemba were all fantastic. Ritchie was AGAIN on another planet tonight! MOTM. #NUFC
