‘Rafa Benathus they said’ – Newcastle United fans in hysterics over Sunderland development

Though the summer window has proved rather frustrating for the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern, the Magpies propping up the bar have been in hysterics today.

That’s because bitter rivals Sunderland are reportedly closing in on the appointment of Preston North End boss Simon Grayson as their new boss, as they prepare for life in the Championship.

Now, that’s not to do the former Leeds United chief a disservice, but it’s fair to say the notion of his arrival at the Stadium of Light is somewhat underwhelming. Especially considering the fact the Toon Army have a certain Rafa Benitez at the helm in the build-up to the Premier League campaign.

With the Toon Army resoundingly beating Grayson’s Preston side three last times last season, it’s fair to say the idea of him taking over the Black Cats has gone down very well on Tyneside.

Considering all of this, here’s a look at how Twitter reacted.
