Rafa Benitez could easily get the best out of £9m-rated striker if he returned to Newcastle

The Newcastle fans within the Transfer Tavern are delighted to have now secured Premier League survival after a run of magnificent form but know that next season has the potential to be a lot harder if Mike Ashley continues to play hardball with his money.

The Magpies thought they saw the back of the owner at the beginning of the season following bids from a number of different parties. However, things didn’t work out and still to this day, Mike Ashley rules over St James’ Park. Rafa Benitez’s future lays in the balance on whether the owner is prepared to back him significantly with a bigger transfer budget, otherwise Newcastle’s hard work of this campaign will all be undone should the Spaniard leave.

Our punters have been discussing who they believe should be transfer targets and a name that keeps reoccurring is West Ham’s Andy Carroll, a big number nine valued at £9.00 million on Transfermarkt. Having played at Newcastle for a number of years, the Magpies in our bar believe the Englishman has unfinished business and should the opportunity arise, both parties would relish this move.

Although once again Carroll has struggled with injuries and only played in 12 Premier League games this season, everyone in the league knows what a threat he can pose to the opposition on his game. Having been the match-winner for West Ham on numerous occasions earlier this season, those games showcased his top qualities brilliantly, whether it be a terrific header or a last minute, back-post goal, proving that he never gives up.

West Ham now seem to have reached the point that they cannot cope with Andy Carroll anymore so Newcastle should eye this as an opportunity to bring back a goalscorer to St/ James’ Park.
