Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their transfer window business will provide them with survival, as a striker has finally been secured on Tyneside.
Rafa Benitez made his transfer window intentions clear prior to the start of this months business and, while January was far from a perfect month, the Magpies did recruit. Indeed, with goals being a problem for Newcastle United so far this season, Rafa Benitez had one particular target set firmly in his sights prior to the window, as according to journalist Luke Edwards, Islam Slimani was the striker that Rafa Benitez said he wanted prior to the start of the January transfer window.
Vaguely interesting point, but Slimani was the striker Benitez told us he wanted before the transfer window opened but didn’t think he could get him back then so he’ll be very happy with him signing today #nufc

Indeed, Rafa Benitez will be delighted at the sight of Leicester City striker Islam Slimani in his ranks, after earlier confirming that the Algerian has signed on loan for the remainder of the season. A position that both fans and the Spaniard knew was vital to the survival hopes of the Magpies, after producing one of the worst goalscoring records in the Premier League so far this season.
Although, their new signing is set to spend the next two weeks out on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury in training with the Foxes, but this won’t be a worry for the Magpies after managing to finally put pen to paper on a deal for a striker that’d evaded Newcastle United for some time. As for Benitez, who hasn’t had the best of relationships with owner Mike Ashley, seeing him land a target that he set his sights on prior to the window could be monumental for the well-being of the club moving forward.
The signing of the Algerian is one that will definitely please the Spaniard since landing his man, but after setting his sights on Joselu during the summer months it’s yet to be seen as to whether another Premier League outcast will be a flop at St James’ Park. However, having shown his goalscoring intent during his days at Sporting Lisbon, and with glimpses at the King Power Stadium, the Toon Army will be hoping he can rediscover his form on Tyneside.
