Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been urging Mike Ashley to allow Benitez to sign players and add to his squad this summer.
Ashley is not one to spend a large amount of money on one big name player, in fact Newcastle have not broken their transfer record since signing Michael Owen for £16M in 2005. The Magpies will be looking to make shrewd signings while increasing the quality of the squad.
One player they could bring in is Alberto Moreno of Liverpool. The 25-year-old has had a tough time at Anfield and questions have been asked over his defensive abilities.
However, Benitez is known for being able to develop the tactical understanding of players. This is a man who won the Champions League with Djimi Traoré starting at left back.
If Rafa could use his connection with Liverpool and secure a deal for the £9M-rated (Transfermarkt) defender it could prove a bargain and Moreno could excel at St James’s Park.
The Spaniard was highly rated during his time at Sevilla and provides pace and an attacking outlet from full-back.
Having fallen behind Andrew Robertson in the pecking order at Anfield it looks as though Jurgen Klopp will allow Moreno to leave this summer.
Newcastle fans – would Moreno be a good signing?
