Newcastle United’s winless start to the Premier League season continued yesterday with a fairly uneventful 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Indeed, while the Magpies have somewhat stopped the rot, the table isn’t looking pretty for Rafa Benitez and company right now.
As ever, the Toon Army are a mess behind the scenes and the Spaniard’s long-term future at St. James’ Park is shrouded in doubt. One of the most popular Newcastle managers in modern history, reports suggest the former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach will look to leave at the end of his contract.
However, despite all his popularity, Benitez made a move yesterday that invoked the ire of the Newcastle faithful on social media.
The Magpies are a team who struggle to score at the best of times, so his decision to take Solomon Rondon off for Joselu at half-time seriously annoyed fans on Twitter. While neither are the most prolific, the fact he swapped one for the other rather than deploying both and going for the game sparked criticism on the social media platform.
So, with that in mind, here’s a closer look at some of it.
Proving to be just as pointless as the Slimani signing last season
