While life in the Premier League is going rather well for the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, last night’s loss to Burnley has proven a slight annoyance. While losing away at Turf Moor is nothing to be ashamed about, the manner in which they lost was a frustrating one.
Indeed, the punters here clad in black and white aren’t overly worried about a relegation battle, though the signs last night weren’t particularly impressive. With that in mind, claims from the Shields Gazette have only dampened the mood amongst our Geordie contingent.
According to them, Mikel Merino is likely to miss the Magpies’ home game against Bournemouth on Saturday, having sat out last night’s loss in Lancashire. The Spaniard has proven a popular figure on Tyneside since arriving this summer and his absence at Turf Moor was a notable one, much to the frustration of the Newcastle-mad punters here.
Newcastle’s lack of strength in depth was evident last night. Without Merino, they lack industry in midfield and struggled to surge forward, so it’s important he gets back to fitness as soon as humanly possible.
