Report details big behind the scenes changes at Newcastle United

Newcastle United supporters have been somewhat despondent in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team lose 2-0 at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, thus slipping a place closer to the bottom three.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their encounter with the Champions League chasing Reds unbeaten in their preceding four league games, a run of form which increased the optimism among our resident Magpies fans that their side will indeed beat the drop this season. Yet their survival chances took a dent at Anfield on Saturday as goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane sealed a routine success for Jurgen Klopp’s side, thus instigating Newcastle’s fall to 16th in the Premier League table.

As such, there have been many quiet Magpies supporters in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Newcastle Chronicle, which details that several Under-23 players have been released by the club.

The North East giants’ development squad beat bitter rivals Sunderland 11-10 on penalties on Wednesday night to seal their place in the last four of the Premier League International Cup, having drawn 2-2 after 120 minutes at the Stadium of Light.

And reports suggest that some of those that featured in the game on Wednesday, including first goal-scorer Curtis Good, have been released by the club in big behind the scenes changes at St James’ Park, in news which is likely to intrigue several of our resident Newcastle supporters.

Landlord’s verdict: Newcastle United’s Under-23 side reached the semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday after beating Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, but big changes have since reportedly taken place regarding the future of most of those youngsters.

And that’s because reports suggest that many of them will be released by the Magpies at the expiration of their contracts, with Callum Roberts, scorer of their second goal on Wednesday, and Luke Charman the only ones to have reportedly received a new deal.

And these big changes are likely to intrigue and perhaps stimulate many questions from our resident Newcastle supporters, especially given the development squad’s recent on-field success.
