While a loss away at Burnley seriously annoyed the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, they’ve largely been delighted about life back in the Premier League. Indeed, with takeover talk rife on Tyneside, life is pretty good right now.
With that in mind, a transfer story to have emerged from Bleacher Report has only heightened the collective excitement amongst our punters here who are clad in black and white. According to Dean Jones’ report, the Magpies are among the clubs keen on a move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings in January.
The one-cap England international has been desperately unlucky with injuries since moving to Anfield in the summer of 2015, missing most of the last two campaigns after serious knee knocks. Working his way back to full fitness, it’s thought that the Reds will look to send him out on loan during the January transfer window, such is the vast array of attacking talent available to Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Newcastle are believed to be ‘making enquirers’ and our Geordie contingent do think he’d be a good signing, with neither Joselu or Dwight Gayle looking overly prolific right now.
Ings does have a lot to offer still and could be a good signing for Newcastle United. Rafa Benitez lacks a striker to bang in goals and the idea of helping the former Burnley man back to his best could be an attractive option in the New Year.
