For the first time in what feels like years, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern believe they and the club are all singing from the same hymn sheet. Under Rafa Benitez, the Magpies are soaring, despite a difficult summer window.
Still, as happy as things are right now, one man in black and white continues to divide opinion. Enter, Aleksandar Mitrovic. Indeed, the Serbian striker has never truly convinced his Spanish boss it seems, despite his popularity amongst the St. James’ Park support.
Indeed, the Chronicle recently did a feature on the former Anderlecht man and his current situation on Tyneside, with Benitez preferring the likes of Dwight Gayle and Joselu in central striking berths thus far.
Within their piece, the Chronicle claim that Mitrovic DOES feel as if he’s getting a ‘raw deal’ under Benitez right now and, to be fair, none of his striking rivals are proving overly prolific for the Toon Army.
Struggling for goals right now, our Geordie contingent remain as divided as ever on Mitrovic’s situation.
Joselu may not grab all too many goals, though has had a largely transformative effect on the team. Unlike Mitrovic, he’s reliable and you know what you’re getting from him and, for a control freak like Benitez, that is crucial.
