The fact that Newcastle United have finally been somewhat active in the market has the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern in good spirits.
While the Magpies had remained largely inactive for swathes of the summer, the Geordies frequenting our venue in their droves have been excited following the arrivals of Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo of late.
The winger has been touted as a target on Tyneside, though Benitez is said to have angered Jurgen Klopp by setting up a deal, only to bid lower than expected last week. As a result, Newcastle have reportedly been told to pay £10m for the 20-year-old, while other clubs have apparently been allowed to discuss a loan move.
Fulham, Middlesbrough and Derby County are believed to be free to talk to the former MK Dons youngster over a loan switch, while the Magpies are understood to have been told to include a buy-back clause in any offer.
Undoubtedly a major talent, the Newcastle fans in the Tavern aren’t too happy about this news.
