As many would've expected this season, Newcastle United have struggled massively this year following Mike Ashley's terrible transfer strategy.

The Magpies failed to bring in anyone of real note to improve their squad and instead only brought in replacements to fill certain holes within the team.

West Brom man, Salomon Rondon was the only player that might be considered an adequate signing but the striker, who was brought in on loan, hasn't yet filled the void up front.

Over the summer, Newcastle sold out of favour forward, Aleksandar Mitrovic, who so far for Fulham has been superb. The root cause of his sale, was his fall out with Rafa Benitez which had also resulted in him being sent to Fulham on loan last season.

The Serbia international has so far been Fulham's best player this season and despite the side struggling at the back, going forward they have been impressive.

After seemingly being at Newcastle for so long, Mitrovic is only 24 and is nowhere close to his prime but his ability to hold up play but also be sharp in the box is that of a player who should be playing for a top 10 side. Whether or not Fulham stay up is unsure but what is for certain is that Mitrovic will attract attention come the summer.

In fairness to Rondon, he has struggled with injuries this season but in truth, what Newcastle have done is bring in a player who plays in a similar style but is half the player Mitrovic is.
