Newcastle need to invest in January to steer away from the Premier League relegation zone in the New Year.
Rafael Benitez will be relieved after the Magpies picked up their first win of the Premier League season last weekend against Watford. The Spaniard wasn’t given many funds to play with in the summer window but will be glad to see Jamaal Lascelles commit his long-term future to the club recently. If Newcastle are to avoid a return to the Championship, investment is needed when the window reopens in January.
One man who should be on Benitez’s shortlist in the New Year is Nimes midfielder – Teji Savanier.
Valued at just £4.5m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman has been one of the standout stars in Ligue 1 so far this season. The 26-year-old has made seven appearances, scoring two and creating two in the process to help Nimes to mid-table in the standings thus far. Savanier has already proven his quality with the French side and being surrounded with better players would only further enhance his abilities.
With Newcastle struggling to find the back of the net this season, Savanier could be the catalyst to get the goals flowing at St. James Park. The midfielder has averaged an impressive 2.2 key passes per 90 minutes in the league this season highlighting the creativity he would bring to the Magpies midfield. Savanier is also a set-piece specialist who could give Newcastle another significant threat. The Frenchman also doesn’t neglect his defensive duties, averaging an incredible 3.7 tackles per game in Ligue 1, making him ideal for Benitez’s midfield pivot (WhoScored).
Newcastle could land the next French superstar if they secured his signature in January.
