The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been fuming with Mike Ashley today, as a story has broken in The Daily Telegraph that claims Matt Ritchie could be leaving St James’ Park. Championship sides Stoke and Middlesbrough are supposedly interested in the winger, with a £15 million fee required to prise him away from the North East.

The Newcastle fans propping our bar up aren’t happy in the slightest with this news.
28-year-old Ritchie epitomises what the fans ask for in a player at the club – what he doesn’t have in talent is made up for in passion and commitment.
The Scottish winger is a key set-piece taker for the club, and chipped in with three goals and six assists for the Magpies last season, including a well-taken strike in the club’s 1-0 home win over Manchester United.
However, the 28-year-old had much more of an impact when he was plying his trade in the Championship, and as such he could be very useful for either Stoke or Middlesbrough.
Newcastle could even try and strike up a deal with either of the clubs to see Xherdan Shaqiri or Adama Traore, both of whom have been linked with a move to the Premier League, coming to St James’ Park in the other direction.
Here’s how several of our local Geordies reacted to the news, with it clear that plenty were in agreement regarding the recent rumour…
Player like ritchie value right now is worth £30, our management not good enough with transfer market policy

In today’s market we should be asking for more than that. Shouldn’t even consider selling
