Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are looking forward to their next Premier League encounter, as they welcome Huddersfield to St James’ Park.
The Magpies managed to get their survival bid back on track in their last Premier League fixture, as they inflicted a heavy 3-0 defeat on fellow relegation contenders Southampton. Although, they’ll be hoping to improve on this in their next top-flight fixture, as they face Huddersfield Town in what will be a relegation crunch match. Indeed, many of our local residents received some positive news yesterday, as according to reports in the Chronicle Live, Newcastle feel that Islam Slimani has an outside chance of facing Huddersfield.
The Algerian is still yet to feature for the Magpies since joining on loan in the January transfer window as he continues to struggle with an injury.
Although, the Magpies feel that he does have an outside chance of being on the bench against the Terriers next weekend, after being left out of Algeria’s 4-1 win over Tanzania. And, they’re also hopeful that he doesn’t feature in Tuesday’s friendly against Iran, as they want him to pick up where he left off with the fitness coach prior to the international break.
However, he is yet to take part in any contact training sessions after working away from the main group last week during United’s trip to Spain. Indeed, unless Slimani is involved in the full-scale training schedule towards the end of the week, he could have to wait until the middle of April to finally make his debut for the club.
Newcastle United will be hoping that they can get him back fit and ready for their clash against Huddersfield, as one of their most important games left in this season’s schedule. Although, there is only an outside chance of him returning for next weekend’s game, which does mean that supporters may have to wait until after the Leicester City match to see him in action.
