Talks reportedly imminent as Newcastle United look to win transfer battle

The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern couldn’t be more desperate for some January arrivals. Indeed, many of our resident Geordies believe Mike Ashley backing Rafa Benitez is imperative this month, if the club are going to stay in the Premier League.

With that in mind, even reports from the Daily Mail have gone down a storm today. According to them, the Magpies are about to make a transfer move, though not one to instantly light the fire of optimism amongst our drinkers clad in black and white who frequent our four walls.

They claim those on Tyneside are set to open talks with 17-year-old forward Yannick Toure of Swiss side Young Boys as they attempt to get their January recruitment drive off the ground. Reportedly a highly-rated talent over in Switzerland, talks are believed to be imminent, with Toure thought to be available on a compensation fee.

The likes of Arsenal and Juventus are also said to be keen, though the Newcastle fans in our bar are eager to see a deal wrapped up quickly.

Landlord’s Verdict:

While it’s promising to see Newcastle making moves and as talented a forward as Toure may be, it’s not what the Magpies need right now. Benitez needs ready-made players to come in and keep his side up, not relying on youngsters with little top level experience.
