Newcastle fans are easily the most excited fans in the Transfer Tavern following their return to the Premier League.

Rafael Benitez’s successful campaign in the Championship have seen the Magpies back to a place that our landlord believes a side of their stature well and truly belong in the Premier League. However, there is still a lot of work to do on the Newcastle squad but that has not stopped the great amount of optimism around St James' Park with the new season fast approaching.

Benitez is the perfect manager to develop the young talent in the Newcastle ranks and although he possess great pulling power in the market, our landlord believes the Spaniard may well give chances to the so called 'wonderkids' in his squad.

Our resident Geordies agree and they like any other fans want to see their club give chances to young players in the first team. There are certainly some youngsters capable in the Newcastle squad and the debate in the Tavern has moved over to which players could really make a big impact on the Premier League this season.

The debate has more or less reached a climax and the Toon Army in the Tavern have listen the two wonderkids that should be watched out for ahead of the new season…

Freddie Woodman

The young goalkeeper only has to look at Everton stopper, Jordan Pickford, to gain inspiration in how quickly young keepers can rise to the top.

Pickford was sensational for Sunderland before his £30million move to the Toffees earlier this summer and our landlord believes Woodman could be a similar story should the opportunity arises at St James' Park.

Woodman was a product of the Crystal Palace academy but the Magpies in the Tavern would still love to see the young goalkeeper make the grade as a Newcastle number one.

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni

El-Mhanni first gained fame as a freestyler but impressive stints in with non-league clubs, Farnbrough and Lewes, saw him get his big break at Newcastle last summer.

Our landlord believes the belief placed in former non-league footballers has increased since the rise of Jamie Vardy and El-Mhanni will bring that x-factor and freedom that could set him apart in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has absolutely nothing to lose and the Magpies in the Tavern are urging Rafa Benitez to give him a go this season.
