Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to see what their side is going to do in the summer market with their side ready to go back into the Premier League.
For sure, new players are going to be needed throughout the side and it’s going to be up to Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley to make sure they get in the players that will keep them in the top flight.
Indeed, Benitez is already going to have an idea of players he wants to bring in and it could just make sense that he decides to bring in Pepe Reina.
Of course, the two Spaniards have worked before – predominantly at Liverpool where they enjoyed great success – and there is a suggestion that Newcastle could do with a new stopper.
Indeed, with Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot vying for the number 1 spot and neither really making it their own (Darlow largely started this season thanks to injuries to Elliot) and Tim Krul out on loan, there is more than an opening for a new goalkeeper to come in.
The Magpies need to aim high, though, to improve on what they have and to ensure they get as good a quality an option in that they can and the Spaniard Reina would tick those boxes.
An experienced stopper with plenty of Premier League know-how, Reina should bring plenty of ability to the Magpies’ defence whilst he’d also be able to transfer what Benitez expects from a Premier League side when it comes to performances.
