The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from their Spanish manager (made in his press conference and quotes by Keith Downie on Twitter), who claimed he needs to find out the aims of the club to see if it matches his ambitions, but he hopes to enter talks soon. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager also said he wants to concentrate on beating Everton on Monday night as the Magpies travel to Goodison Park.
Rafa Benitez has spoken about his future today: “My position now is to know the ideas of the club and find out if we share the same ambitions. I want talks as soon as possible but I also want to concentrate on beating Everton on Monday.”

Rafa Benitez took over as Newcastle manager just over two years ago after he was sacked by Real Madrid early in the 2015/16 season. The Spanish gaffer has been performing miracles in the Northeast ever since. The 58-year-old was unable to keep the Magpies up in the last few months he spent with the club in 2016, although he ensured the club bounced straight back to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season and has now guided the club to the top-half of the Premier League.
The question for the fans now is whether Benitez wants to carry on taking the club forward as they look to get back in Europe and challenging the top six. At the moment that looks very unlikely, and with the opening of the Arsenal job in the summer following Arsene Wenger’s resignation, Benitez could just be tempted to make the move south from St James Park to The Emirates.
You can see what our local Geordies have been saying about their Spanish tactician here:
He can’t wait to get approached by Arsenal can he!
Poor bloke is dying to get back into the champions league with a big club!

The problem is Ashley will see his approach as being vindicated. Hardly any investment and we may finish 10th. He will think he's right. He won't see that Rafa holds it all together. Time to go Mike, #ashleyout

In other words: “Arsenal have been in touch, so if Fat Mike can’t match my level of ambition – I’m off.”

It's in Ashley's court now or he will be at Arsenal next season
