Newcastle have not started the season well, just like last time out so they seem destined to have another tricky campaign ahead of them.
Rafa Benitez was reportedly promised a lot when staying on as Newcastle boss but yet again, Mike Ashley has not delivered, something that infuriates fans and manager alike.
If the Magpie are yet again to escape disaster, it will require serious team spirit but also a hefty budget in January seeing as not a great deal was spent during the summer transfer window. Their main problem seems to be in midfield so far and a partner to the ever-present Jonjo Shelvey is sure to be a worthwhile investment.
Someone along the lines of Feyenoord’s Tonny Vilhena would be a sensible idea for Newcastle, seeing as the Dutch midfielder has great quality now even at the age of 23.
Vilhena, (who is valued at £10.8 million on Transfermarkt) has been a name of interest for a number of Premier League teams over the years but with Newcastle’s current demise, they need all the talent they can get their hands on. The 23-year-old is exactly that and the Dutch international would be the perfect partner for Jonjo Shelvey.
The midfielder is the creative type, best demonstrated by his great stats from last season where he scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in his Eredivisie appearances only. With the ability to play as a more attacking midfielder as well as a box-to-box man, Vilhena provides a great opportunity for Newcastle to invest a significant fee into a very good player.
Mike Ashley must soon realise that he has to spend to keep his Newcastle side in the Premier League and Tonny Vilhena is the perfect player to invest in.
