Top six quality: Newcastle must make audacious move for linked-away £27m-rated ace

Newcastle United supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side go down 1-0 at home to the Premier League’s bottom side West Brom to suffer a second successive league defeat.

Rafa Benitez’s men went into their meeting with the Baggies off the back of a 1-0 loss at Everton on Monday night, a result which brought to an end their four-match winning streak in the league. And they couldn’t get back to winning ways at St James’ Park on Saturday either as a Matt Phillips strike in the first half was enough to secure all three points for the Midlands outfit, leaving Newcastle tenth in the Premier League table with just three games to play.

Subsequently, there have been many disappointed Magpies supporters in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their team can finish the season strongly to build momentum ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Newcastle fans to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that Danny Rose, amongst others, looks set to be offloaded by Tottenham this summer.

And with Benitez likely eyeing signings that can take his team to the next level next season, the North East giants should seek to make an audacious move for the £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) this summer.

Ultimately, while he hasn’t enjoyed the best of campaigns this time round, there is little doubt that the 27-year-old is one of the best left backs in the Premier League, having played a key part in Spurs’ success in their run to third place in 2015, and second place in 2016.

As such, he had propelled himself to the top of the England pecking order following his impressive efforts in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and while things haven’t quite been as good for Rose this season, one would still expect him to go to this summer’s World Cup.

Yet just seven Premier League appearances and the fine form of fellow left back Ben Davies has, alongside comments made in an interview with The Sun last summer, plunged his future at Tottenham into doubt, doubt Newcastle must seek to take advantage of.

Yes, Paul Dummett deserves praise for steadying the ship in the left back department this season following his return from injury back in December, but it’s pretty clear that Rose is a much better full back than the Newcastle star, and would bring genuine top six quality to a Magpies side eyeing the European spots next term.

Be it bombing up and down the left flank to aid in attacks or indeed defensively in his own box, Rose has improved ten-fold in recent times in both aspects of being a modern-day full back, and were the North East heavyweights able to land Kenedy on a permanent deal this summer, they would have a left-hand-side of envy of several sides in the division.

Obviously, it’ll be a tall order to persuade Rose of a move to St James’ Park, but if Newcastle are serious about returning to their previous successes under Benitez, he is the calibre of player they have to be targeting.

Subsequently, the Magpies must seek to make an audacious move for the linked-away left back this summer.
