Transfer comments could be music to the ears of Newcastle United fans

Our resident Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern would be delighted if Islam Slimani would help the club achieve safety this season. Indeed, after waiting so long for a new striker, they hope the Algerian powerhouse will be enough to fire them to safety.

According to Sky Sports, on-loan Newcastle striker, Slimani, would be willing to stay with the club on a permanent basis if the Magpies were to avoid the drop this season. Despite not even playing for the club yet since his deadline day move, these are the sort of comments to endear him to our punters clad in black and white.

The Algerian forward has experienced a frustrating 18 months with Leicester City since joining the Premier League from Sporting in Portugal.

In 44 games for the Foxes, Slimani scored 13 goals in all competitions. By contrast, the forward scored a fantastic total of 57 goals in 109 appearances for Sporting.

He was signed by Newcastle to help negate their striking problems and help secure safety in the Premier League and our resident Geordies would love to see him stick around.

Landlord’s verdict

There’s no doubting that Islam Slimani is a talented striker and he could thrive with consistent first-team involvement at Newcastle. He would be an excellent permanent addition to Rafa Benitez’s team.
