Update delivered on Mike Ashley as Newcastle United talks continue – Report

Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely desperate to see Rafa Benitez lead his team to a win tonight in order to stave off any relegation fears. Indeed, our punters clad in black and white are fearing the worst after a truly awful run of results.

For our resident Geordies, the only saving grace of this Premier League campaign is the idea of a takeover and the end of the Mike Ashley era, though one in time for the January window looks less likely by the minute. With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mail have given a status update on the Sports Direct mogul.

They claim he returned to England on Tuesday (yesterday) after a brief holiday in the United States and negotiations with Amanda Staveley and her PCP backers will continue, with Benitez reportedly frustrated about the uncertainty currently in play at St. James’ Park.

A deal being completed before the end of next month is reportedly very unlikely, so it’s up for the Magpies in our bar to pray for Ashley spend in the New Year sales.

Landlord’s Verdict:

It’s yet another kick in the gut for Newcastle United under Mike Ashley. He can’t even sell the club without a fuss and now it’s imperative he spends money to protect his asset from dropping down into the Championship once again.
