Four losses on the bounce have seriously concerned our Newcastle United supporting punters here in the Transfer Tavern. Indeed, while Rafa Benitez retains a huge amount of support, life amongst the Toon Army isn’t a happy one right now.
So, in need of a boost, reports emanating out of Italy have at least cheered some of the punters clad in black and white here up somewhat. According to TransferMarketWeb and the Daily Express the Magpies are ‘working on’ a loan deal for Manchester United’s Luke Shaw in January, amid his constant struggles at Old Trafford.
Few would doubt the Magpies’ need for a left-back, with the injury to Paul Dummett at the start of the campaign showing just how depleted the club are in that regard. Both Chancel Mbemba and Javier Manquillo have been deployed there, so it’s clear that a new man needs to be brought in.
With that in mind, this report claims that contact has already been made by Benitez to top brass at the Theatre of Dreams to potentially take the man so often criticised by Jose Mourinho on loan for the last part of the season.
Shaw would be a great signing for Newcastle and perhaps first-team football could help him rediscover his best, ahead of the World Cup.
